We have received a number of emails expressing people’s prayers and well-wishes for everybody affected by the incident at the Gleision Colliery. As we receive them we will publish them on this page.
Our lit candle flickers its gentle light in tandem with the hope we feel for the trapped miners and their families. I empathise greatly with the family, as yet torturously unaware of which, unnamed miner has been found lost. All strength to the rescuers and comforting hugs to the families. Our thoughts are very much with you.
Yours faithfully and much love,
Susan and Tom McLaughlan, Isle of Benbecula

As a South Welsh person, now living in England, thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the trapped miners. So very, very sorry to hear the dreadful news that a third miner has been found deceased. Hopes still go out for the
fourth man. I hope the community might set up a charitable fund for the families of those lost?

The town of Hawick in the Scottish Borders has had links with Pontardawe for many years through the sport of rugby. Many families in our towns know each other. On behalf of the community of Hawick, I send sympathies. You are all in our thoughts.
Ron Smith
Hon. Provost of Hawick

My sincere sympathies for the families that have experienced the trauma and agony of the past 24 hours and the days to come. I’m so sorry.
It is with the greatest sadness that we learn of the passing of four of your menfolk. Please know that throughout our Methodist Circuit in Gosport & Fareham, we will be thinking of you all and praying that God’s strength will sustain you at this most terrible of times.
